The tour is marked by distinctive Hands of History signposts, each featuring the Gitxsan symbol of peace and welcoming, an open hand, along with a brief story about a person, place, event, or landmark that has played an important role in the region's history. Covering approximately 240 kilometres (150 miles), the tour can easily be tailored to suit your schedule and interests. Depending on how often you stop to explore, the journey typically takes between 4 and 8 hours. |

The route is divided into two segments, both beginning at the Hazeltons’ Visitor Centre on Highway 16 in New Hazelton. The first explores the breathtaking Hagwilget Canyon Bridge, the historic riverfront Village of Hazelton, 'Ksan Historical Village & Museum, and the community of Kispiox, home to one of British Columbia's most remarkable collections of historic totem poles. |

PART TWO
The second segment follows the Skeena River westward to the historic totem poles of Gitwangak and Gitanyow. Discover heritage churches as you continue through Gitwangak and the rural community of Kitwanga to Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site, offering even more opportunities to experience the rich history and culture of the Upper Skeena. |
